In Response To: Containment checker play, take 2 (Timothy Chow)

There are two other questions I forgot to ask:

1. In the Backgammon Encyclopedia, the cube reference positions are all with the cube in the center. Is the Jacoby rule going to distort things here too? Perhaps the side that is trying to contain will be somewhat reluctant to activate gammons by turning the cube, since gammon losses are more likely than gammon wins?

2. Can we extract any information out of the cubeless numbers here? It's tempting to try to figure out which checker plays win/lose more games/gammons, but a first glance at the cubeless figures makes me skeptical that we can extract this information properly.
