I see a couple issues to consider:

1) How accurate are the Keeler-Spencer-Zadeh-Kobliska model results? (BTW, I think you have a typo in the reference -- 1997 should be 1977.)

2) Is your OtB algorithm worth the effort?

The second is a judgement call for each individual. Regarding the first question, when the bearoff gets down to a few checkers the continuous model (as used by these authors) breaks down. Typically below a pipcount of 30 or so you need to use a different method of determining the equity.

As you know, 30 years ago there were no reliable computers or bearoff databases. It might be an interesting exercise to put positions into GNU-bg (for the higher pipcounts) and see how well your algorithm (and their results) hold up.
