If STick would agree to add the modified images to his site, with a new name, then anyone wishing to post would only have to manually change the name of the point-number images in their html export.

That's definitely the best solution - assuming Naccel 2 has enough traction that it might conceivably be used more than a few times here. Backgammon board images in forum posts should ideally be hosted by the same facility as the forum itself to ensure continuity.
