This is not an easy problem; the timing situation is delicate.

It looks to me that Yellow can get Brown to break her 8pt before she has to break her inside board often enough to justify burning two checkers to the 1pt, factoring in that White might roll doubles (without the existence of doubles, 18/7 would have to be right), given that the alternative leaves 24 shots against the best four-point board. So, I'll go with 8/1 7/1.

If Brown's 8pt checker were back on her midpoint, then I would play 18/7.

Whether running is above or below the breakeven point in the actual position or the altered position is not so important. What I think is more important to realize is running would be much more reasonable in the second. That's really my point. One can't judge the position on basic principles or axioms alone (e.g., in a mindset that thinks "never run when leaving 24 shots" or "always run if White hasn't made her fourth point," or whatever).
