When Matt said I somehow don't think everyone will pay $540. In fact, I will bet against it. I took him to mean that since there are so many groups to begin with, let's assume a field of 64 so 8 groups of 8, that already for the first rebuy you're down to 8 people not rebuying. I don't think he was questioning that virtually everyone will rebuy who loses.

Secondly suppose a player wins in the first grouping. What to do until the playoffs start? With most still trying to qualify would there be any side tournaments available?

Perhaps they too should be offered the chance to rebuy and if they win again get bye(s) once the pruning has been done. (all rebuys round are completed)
