With the cube centered, this would be a close decision and I think I'd be making the 8 point as it creates a position that should lead to an efficient double without giving up too much when things don't work out. I'd also be doing that at DMP or GS.

But with the cube owned by white (and at GG), the hit becomes more clear. The gammons produced by the position will be realized rather than inefficiently cashed. Doubled gammons are also worth more than usual at this score. When lacking cube access, all things being equal, it tends to be correct to go for the knock-out rather than to drag it out for the decision.
