Don't take this the wrong way... I just want to point out a possible flaw in all of this.

I think Neil is a great guy, and what he did was really the right thing.

The problem with lauding this as "terrific sportsmanship" and going all googly eyed over it is that it shouldn't be taken as some super outstanding thing. Golfers call penalties on themselves all the time -- penalties that nobody could possibly have noticed except themselves (accidentally making imperceptible contact with the ball). Nobody says that's terrific sportsmanship -- it's just standard fare in golf.

I'd like the kind of think Neil did to be just standard, run-of-the-mill stuff. We should strive for a community where this kind of thing is normal.
