Very close between 5/1, 5/4* and 5/off without hitting. I choose the nonhit because I think that first checker we bear off is very important whether we are hit or not. It's not because of gammon considerations but because it speeds our bearoff up by a roll. That matters when he rolls an immediate big double to put him back in sort-of-contention in the race, and also when he hits because of what might happen with the recube afterward.

If we already had a checker off, I think I'd go with the hit, though it would still be a close call. Then there'd be an increased, though still tiny, chance we could win a gammon ourselves!
