Naccelers -- another position for you

- Blue:
- triplet on n2 = 1
- one checker on S3 = 3
- There seem to be a million ways to count the checkers on n7 and n-5. I like the hopping approach: Hop all of them to n1 (that's 4 forward hops and 2 backward hops netting 2) to get a sixtuplet worth 1.
- 1 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 7
- White:
- triplet on n2 = 1
- "Midblot 2 + S1" (did I spell that correctly?) = 3
- Neutral shift of the checkers on n16 and n14 to n15 leads to a double zag = 10
- 1 + 3 + 10 = 14.
I like how in the course of the Naccel tutorial series, much like in a language course, a vocabulary is gradually built up to describe the counting-relevant features of a backgammon position. As a side effect, once I've Naccelized a position, I'm often close to having memorized it, because I can sum it up with a few of these words. Similar to Ian, though, I'm still not fluent enough to prefer Naccel over my accustomed routine (half-crossover approximative pip count, in my case) in live play. But I know, skating takes quite some time to master.
