Considering that an ace (except disaster double 1!--don't even know how to play it, tough, 6/2 for ease of later covering, or 4/2 3/1 to give blotting 41 and retain the devastating two-prime, or half-and-half 5/2 3/2 giving blotting 51, only 1 pip farther away from the builders than after 6/2?), an ace, I say, loses your market by a lot; and that you'll probably have another chance to cover if you can't do so right away; and also that you have pretty good winning chances even after you're hit: I would double. There's a one-way gammon for White as well as some winning chances after a closeout, so easy take, but many easy takes should be doubled.

Two double 4's in succession is disastrous, but I guess I could live with that possibility, ready to pay off with a smile or a grimace.
