This is not an easy play to me, it seems it is to many of you, but certainly not me. Note that Stick has a FULL prime and if we cannot counterprime him in some manner to force him to break, we are done. Fortunately, we have great chances to block 3 checkers, or sometimes 2.

OK compare 11&23 to 11&12 ...

Stepping up to the 23 pt doesn't yet help if Stick rolls the poor shots that break his prime from the rear as we have no direct exit. So is 12/11 worth the risk of being hit a few times to get a new builder ? When one considers that the 65 and 45 hitters make our bar pt and that if Stick then can bring his remaining laggard out, we are basically done, this is very meaningful duplication !

So 11&12 is superior to 11&23 due to the building potential when not hit.

Now compare 11&12 to the safer but slightly less constructive 10 pt. Making the 10 pt leaves NO shots, and still gives decent coverage, but 11&12 leaves 7 shots, but 4 are rather duped shots, but is better if not hit.

However, we don't need to force the issue if Stick just runs a checker, all we need do is to rehit it and then try to block his 3 checkers in our board.
