In particular, the calculation (or estimation) of live cube take points is something I don't quite understand. I've been using what you called "perfect cube" take points, but I'm not sure if this is the same thing as a live cube TP or even a reliable substitute.

No, it is not.

"Perfect cube" is something I made up as a way to 1) do less math and 2) get about the same numbers. Fully live is calculated by (cubeless take point) x (cubeful cash point) i.e., assuming you recube exactly at 1.0 EMG when your opponent has an optional take/drop. What I call "perfect cube" is calculated by assuming you always win double the amount of the cube, i.e., assuming you always recube at 2.0 EMG and your opponent takes. Obviously this is ridiculous but it works as an approximation and requires less math.
