...counting the men not taken off counted against you...

I remember seeing this variation used (once) back in 1976 or '77. A friend of mine was playing a guy who wanted to play with this rule for $ and my friend was so confident that he had an advantage that he went along with it, even though I doubt it entered into his strategy. (As I recall my friend came out well ahead.)
