It does give 7 rolls that make the 8 point cleanly as opposed to just 2 with 14/9. The 8 point isn't huge, but it does help to contain the 3rd guy. My main thinking was that, in addition to more rolls to make the 8, it's better to get a double or triple shot if he leaps with a 6. But I'd just as soon make the 8 if he doesn't.
