I am a big fan of "Pointless Doubles", and contrary to Talbot's Law I have some examples in my files of ones that are passes (including one I took in a recent tournament). However, this doesn't look like the ones that are passes...or even the ones that are takes! a) The opponent's board is much better than I normally see for a correct Pointless Double, and b) our own bear-in structure may not "roll well". Even if we make the five point this roll, how we do so is going to make a big difference in our subsequent playability. How good are we, really, if we make it with a 53? If we get a 52, we make the 4 instead, giving him a chance to anchor, and from there to hit or even race.

Especially at this score, I am joining the wimps who are waiting a roll.
