Agreed. The best way to play these positions is to play them optimally and give him a chance to make mistakes. Suboptimal decisions lower your equity. Of course you may not like getting blitzed or defending the back game, but that's another story.
Just use normal checker play tactics. Anchor up against the blitz, prime the backgame, be aware of timing (but not so much that you start making errors), etc.
