Seems to me someone should design a database for backgammon positions. That way you'll have multiple indexes so positions that fit several categories will be easily findable with different seaches.

You might want all games where you hold the 20-point, opp owns the bar- and 8-points, and you have a certain pipcount range and/or homeboard structure.

If I'm not mistake (IINM? :) that is what databases are meant to do.
