For most of the games it discusses, I don't think SS1 holds up today. Not because it advises bad strategy, mind you. The authors of the articles are basically the "Who's Who" of poker. The difficulty is that the structure of most of the games have changed, and changing the rules of the games usually changes the basic strategy as well. The only game that remains relatively similar to how it was in the 70s is NLHE.

S/S is the poker equivalent to Magriel's Backgammon, but you'll have to take everything with a grain of salt. I haven't read the book in so long that I don't remember the exact blinds/antes structure that was in place at the time. That said, it was one of the first books on poker that I read, and I can't really imagine not having read it.
