There is no second choice. The timing for a backgame isn't right and White's blockade isn't very effective : half of the rolls escape a backman and a few other slot the 20pt, and there are the two loose blots to pick.

Moreover, after this play, Blue probably wins immediately 16/36 of the time. This is a tough hurdle for the alternatives.
