85d is one of those high implied odds hands. When you hit a flop hard (say 679, 467, 883, 852, etc) your hand is very well disguised, and even if the flop doesn't give you a crushing hand, you may have a double draw and a good hand to semi-bluff with. When stacks are deep (as in this case) playing suited connectors against an aggressive opponent can be very VERY profitable.

If I'm playing 85d here, I'm looking to do one of 3 things:

1) hit a flop hard, and stack my opponent by checking and letting him continue the preflop action

2) get a draw, and be able to draw cheaply at it

3) pull off a stone cold bluff if the flop comes raggy.

If you lay down most of your blind hands to a raise, you're going to have a sign around your neck that says "Steal my blinds... please!"

I defend alot of my blinds, sometimes not even looking at my cards while doing so depending on who raises.
