In Response To: Can XG's out-of-the-box default settings be changed so that they match generally agreed settings? (Bob Koca)

UBK "When you say there is not really that much accuracy you are correct in one sense but wrong in another. If you rollout a play a gazillion times the results will give a more and more accurate result for what the bot gets playing as the bot plays (which is probably not perfect). That may be the needed value for studying things such as how much difference a varaince reduction technique may make."

Neil replies that those 5 words (which is probably not perfect..referring to the bot's play) are the reason I strongly feel that more than 3 decimal places for emg isn't needed and is basically meaningless. As good as the bot's play is and noting XG2 is stronger than XG1, it isn't good enough in almost any positions (perhaps it is in races) to be sure that a play that RO's as .0003 better than the second choice is actually the best play. Nor should we care from a practical standpoint.

My opinion remains that while a 4th decimal place may make statistions and other quants feel better, it has almost no practical use for telling us what the best play really is.
