Don't worry, I will not do my Stick impersonation again ;-)

I would take after 20/16 9/6, hit and dance, but not after 20/13, hit and dance. The big difference is that after the last exchange, XG is further ahead in the race and has only one checker back, which I think is more important than having additional builder(s) here.

On the other issue you touched, I think good checker play is more important than good cube play. From good checker play, good cube play can follow, but you need good checker play to extract the equities from cube decisions. So checker play seems the more fundamental skill.
