Rollout Machine

I am considering a new desktop computer and would like high performance for XG rollouts (who wouldn't). Any recommendations in the price range $2000 - $3000?

I have been waiting on Intel's Sandy Bridge announcement (made this Monday) but it appears Intel's new microprocessors will do little for compute intensive tasks. I'm probably looking at an i7-900 based system. What about Xeon 5000 series? These have excellent overall benchmark figures but I have not found specific info on their floating point performance. Are they better suited to servers than number crunchers?

Lastly, any experience with overclocking? Is it reliable? Is the necessary advanced cooling reliable?
