Wouldn't mentioning backgammon be a little like comparing apples and oranges? Checkers, chess, and go have no luck as part of the game. That's why beating a world champion in those games is so impressive. BKG won its match over Luigi Villa in 1979 because it was lucky, not because it was a better player. The luck element in backgammon also leads to a completely different programming approach than the other games.
