With three points made we have an offense, and I don't think it is necessary to go all out for building board by slotting 2 (6/2 5/4) or breaking 8 (8/4 8/7). It would be nice to be able to hit an indirect in the outfield next turn having only one blot to worry about.

Of the plays that just leave the single blot, I prefer making 3 as this leaves 1s 2s and 4s as cover number - which are blocked on the far side. I think this makes up for making the slightly inferior point.
