15 pips to bearin shrinks to 7. So we're going to leave one of the following: { (12,7), (11,8), or (10,9) }. All of these are equally good getting off in one roll (3-3 or higher), so no further consideration needed there.

I seem to recall from 30 years ago (warning -- "little knowledge is a dangerous thing", etc.) that (10,9) is generally best of these. I don't remember 'why'. However, note that the roll with the smallest number of pips that wastes a bearin pip is 5-1 with (10,9) compared to 3-2 with (12,7) and 3-1 with (11,8). Maybe that's the reason??
