Does Kleinman address this or a similar situation (that you are aware of), or were you just referring to a general principle "cater to the worst"? This is definitely the kind of problem Kleinman could have written about (somewhere in his many volumes).

He undoubtedly has a more specific principle for this situation that I don't remember, and likely has even written about pretty much exactly this situation. When it came up in the OLM, it was clear it had to be posted (Stick's yawning notwithstanding) since it seemed so Kleinman-esque.

The general principle I'm thinking of is this: we're a favorite to run off the gammon. As such, we should be worrying about the worst roll, and ensure that the worst roll doesn't penalize us. It's the opposite situation where you're in dire straights and need to try to make 66 and 55 work for you -- in that situation, you cater to your best.
