I sort of agree that if one looks only at the immediate containment variations then making the 4pt might not come out on top. The tradeoff I see is that the 4pt has greater long-term structural value that will pay off down the road. If the opponent's rear checker escapes now, that's bad, but it's not the end of the world. In that scenario I think we'll be glad that we don't have to "waste" any more rolls to make our 4pt.

If this were somehow a last-chance containment position in the endgame then I don't think I'd make the 4pt.
