Two key factors: stripped 8 point, big stack on the midpoint. Another key: White has an advanced anchor. Blue is going to lose this game if he sits back and gets primed/attacked. One more: builders are in place to make inner board points. True, Blue is likely to get hit on the bar point, but he'll often return hit or at least prevent White from making an inner point and anchor up inside. Last one: Blue has the stronger board.

Basically, ALL the factors for splitting are present here, except for the 33-number shot at Blue's blots (White won't hit with 54 and 44). It's hardly all that bad though, since Blue would much prefer to get hit loose on the bar and have a return 6 than to run and have White make his 5 point.
