I say take. Rolling 6 or 1 does not let him clear the last point safely, and most such rolls clears the bar or the 8-point (prematurely). The stripped position, with one stack, does not let him make a new inner board point without leaving a blot, except for rolling doubles. I think there is enough shot potential to take.
