In Response To: Mastering Backgammon series by Bill Robertie (Mislav Radica)

Robertie's articles were much better and does make for a nice quick scan though I doubt many here will get much from the articles as Mislav said. Not to miss out on my opening bitching though:

  • The run-or-split rolls: 6-4, 6-3, and 6-2 Playing 6-4: 24/14 or 24/18 13/9? - Later he puts 64P in as an Unusual Play alongside 62$ 62$ is about .05 error, 64P is about.. oh.. correct

  • includes 43U but not 32Z?

  • As later generations of the bots became available, the answer became clear ...With 4-1, the slot was clearly wrong, and by a substantial margin. With 5-1, splitting maintained a slight edge, but the slot was a reasonable alternative - Mmm hmm

  • So the right plays with these rolls are: - with 2-1: play 13/11 6/5, slotting the 5-point. - with 4-1: play 13/9 24/23, splitting the back men. - with 5-1: either play is all right, but 13/8 24/23 is probably slightly stronger - more Mmm hmm
