Bearoff cube decision

From W.Trice Backgammon Boot Camp:
1) Adjusted pip count (Thorp): blue gets +1 (35) for extra man on pt2, while shite gets +3 (38) for 3 extra men on pt2. Nothing else 9same crossover, occupied points and number of men).
2) 35 being smaller than 62, "rules 62" says : do -5, /7 and round down: (35-5)/7 down = 4. Hence the trailer last point of take is 35+4 = 39.
3) Since the trailer has 38, then it's a take.
4) In order to have a redouble, the trailer must be no less than 2pip shy from the point of last take (3 for an initial double): 39-2 = 37. Since the trailer has 38, then it's a double.
All the above is under the (giant) assumption my memory is woking fine.
By the way, has anybody an opinion on Keith's count ? It's simpler than Thorp and Keith claims it's better, but I've heard (strong) players saying that it's not as powerful as Keith's analysis seems to indicate ...
