Ward is a modification of (=improvement on) Thorp. Trice mentions doing a study of millions(!) of bearoff positions comparing them (and maybe another, I don't remember) where Ward came out clearly best. I used to use Thorp but seeing the result of this study switched to Ward. Also, John O'Hagan pointed out that once you've got a Ward Count you can then use Kleinman. This is VERY useful.

I still say that the weakness of the competing methods is converting to GWC. If Walter has a global method for EPC I haven't seen it. (Maybe we should ask him.) I'm sure it's doable but someone has to do it! The two pip thing Matt the Younger mentions (or something similar) works locally but (I'm pretty sure) not globally.
