Chess lends itself to this kind of analysis because of the ELO system. It's basically just a straight calculation: 200 ELO points corresponds to 75%, world champion is ~2800, theoretically someone playing at random ought to be 0, so there are 14 skill differentials. I'm not too sure about Go 40, never having played Go.

I don't know how he came up with the backgammon number. Presumably it should also be measurable by ELO, and although the games aren't recorded, world champion players are around 2200 ELO. That would mean that random play would be around 600 ELO. Maybe 200 ELO points doesn't correspond to a 75% money favorite in backgammon? I know the system was modified somewhat.
