It is common to split to the bar point with 62 and 63 after an opening move such as 42P. We are used to seeing that pattern and it looks natural. The eight point is stripped which reduces the value of hitting aces. However, part of the logic behind this move is that there simply aren't any other choices for sixes. 24-18 is the only candidate. The problem with a move like 42P-62S is that you create good sixes for your opponent who doesn't have good sixes either. Here you are already split. It is less urgent to move the back checkers again than it is after an opening 42. And you have a choice other than 23-18. 13-8 strips the midpoint. But, it is better than creating good sixes for white from her stacked midpoint. 13-11, 13-8 looks best.
