Colorless Counting--A clever concept

We basically agree.
There is one other thought I had for a potential sea change in the way we approach the whole game. Namely, I can imagine that someone could develop a large number of point-count systems to cover all (or most) aspects of the game.
What do I mean by a point-count system? It's most easily explained by example. The one area where point-count systems are in wide use is non-contact racing. The Keith count, for example, is a point-count system. Every once in a while someone develops a point-count system for some limited set of difficult decisions. For example, Tardieu published a system for certain safe/bold bearin decisions. More recently, on GammonVillage, Ash Dalvi has published some point-count systems for certain blitzing positions. (I believe that Dalvi's work is excellent and is underappreciated, by the way.) It is not too much of a stretch to imagine that someone could take the material in Woolsey's Backgammon Encyclopedia and upgrade it into a series of advanced point-count systems. This would be a lot of work but I think it could be done, and if done well, could dramatically change our general approach to the game.
In some sense, even if this were done, one could argue that it wouldn't be "really new" because it would have precursors, and any individual point-count system would be "just" a refinement of previous ideas. But if someone were to take a comprehensive approach and create a whole library of such systems, then I would argue that it would be a major shift in the way we think about backgammon.
