61P 22

Timothy Chow asks, about 13/11(2) 6/4(2) beating 24/22(2) 6/4(2) in the money rollout of 61P/22, "Is the explanation that despite superficial appearances, 61P is not actually that strong a priming threat?"
Timothy is correct. After White opens with 61P, Black can afford, with his 22 respone, to focus on priming White without worrying about being primed. Unless White rolls a small doublet (11 22 33), she cannot make an inner point without leaving a blot on her 8pt or 7pt.
After playing 13/11(2), 6/4(2), even Black's large doubles (44 55 66) play constructively. Only Black's 65 presents a problem.
Ahead in a match, I would play 24/22(2) 6/4(2). At Gammon Save, 24/20(2) is best.
