In Response To: Kamikaze plays... (christian munk-christensen)

I don't think your position looks desperate enough for me to play kamikaze but I don't really feel confident, especially ATS.

Below is an approximation of a position that came up in our chouette some time ago. I was captain and opted to play bar/21 6/4 against the objections of the team, who wanted bar/21 5/3 to cut down the gammon danger. Not sure if this is exactly what you had in mind by a kamikaze position, and I'm also not sure whether bar/21 6/4 was the correct play, but my reasoning was that the deadliest outcome was to be forced to bury all our checkers, so I wanted our checkers to be hit and sent back where they would not be buried.

The box entered, and I don't remember exactly what happened but I think we managed to get several checkers sent back (with the cooperation of the box, who seemed happy to hit even when it looked wrong to me). We were forced to bury one (but only one) checker before our backgame chances kicked in. Unfortunately the backgame didn't work out, but we did reach a position with some reasonable winning chances. If we had played bar/21 5/3 then I think our winning chances would have been much worse and we would still have lost a lot of gammons. In particular I feel fairly confident that at DMP, bar/21 6/4 is correct.
