Settlement ?

I had 2 men left on my 6 point, and, opponent had 2 men on ace and 2 men on 2 point- I cubed to 8 and rolled 1-1. I moved them into 1 man on 5 point and 1 man on 3 point. I was then recubed to 16 and took. He took 2 men off and I was now on roll needing a 5-3 or better. What would be correct settlement here on a 16 cube? I offered 3 points and he wanted 6 points. Would you please show math involved. Seth
