To clear or not to clear

I couldn't decide between clearing the 10 point and making the 1 point. Eventually I played to former but not for any clear reason. Which one is right ( or did I miss the right move altogether ) ?

Also, what is the etiquette about opponents names? I have been changing them (like here) to something generic, in case someone objects to their name in a post. On the other hand, it was their game too.
