Two queries about EPC in XG2

1. As I enter checkers in a player's home board, the effective pip count (EPC) increases with each extra checker. But when I enter the 15th checker, the EPC disappears, although the pip count increases. Is this a bug ? I have not extended the bear off database.

2. EPC = (average number of rolls required to bear off) X (average pips per roll, 8 1/6). Why has the convention been adopted of showing EPC rather than average number of rolls to bear off ? Is this for ease of comparison with the various race formulae based on pips ?
