(1) Ruling out moving from the anchor or the checkers in the home board leaves 4 plays. Compare 7/5 7/4 to 13/10 13/11. Which looks more useful and efficient? The first, I think. Then you have two plays that move one checker from the 7 and one from the 13. The 11 point doesn't look like a place we want to put a checker. The 10 point looks more attractive, bearing on the 4 point with sixes, and 7/5 is fine. Is 13/10 7/5 better than 7/5 7/4? Beats me. I'd play 7/5 7/4.

(2) Because White has 7 numbers that don't clear, I won't break the 8 point. So I play 11/6. 18/13 picks up a double shot on 6-6 and 6-4, and is a little better if White does not hit, but I'd rather not be hit with aces, especially 1-4 and 1-5.

(3) 4-away 2-away with a two cube. You'd like to race and you're running out of time. 6/3 5/1 is too fractured, so 6/3 6/2 is better. The other play 13/9 13/10 leaves 20 shots. Or does it? If I were White, I wouldn't hit unless I could cover at least one home board blot. So 20 hits become 12, which seems as good or better than you can expect to leave later, and you don't lose all the 12, either. So 13/9 13/10 looks very good.

(4) 22/12 looks safest, "only" 22 gammonish shots. Play confidently, maybe the cube won't be touched ;-
