Touch Move rule, dangers

Chess has no trouble attracting new players. And I don't remember hearing anyone complain that he is not allowed to test out moves by playing them on the board before deciding on his actual move.
In chess, you move one piece, potentially capturing a second, so at most two pieces change position on any one move.
In backgammon, you move up to four checkers, potentially hitting up to four checkers, so up to eight checkers can change position on a turn.
