Personally, I think common sense should always prevail, but what some of you are asking for seems a lot like sitting down at the poker table with someone who has a little card telling him the ranking of the hands, and demanding that he not use the card. If I'm playing against someone who can only count the pips out loud and on his fingers, God bless him, I want that opponent every round no matter how distracting it is.
Your card-ranking-card example seems analogous to someone looking at a card that has a match equity table or a list of correct opening plays/replies, which as far as I know is illegal in backgammon tournaments. I'll assume you know that but wish to transcend the issue.
If you get paired with a very weak player and feel generous enough to let him replay his bad moves, shuffle with touch move in place, babble incessantly, consult a MET, ask advice from a bot and passing experts, not shake his dice, reroll, whatever, that's your business, but I'm not sure what it has to do with a rules discussion. :)
