I've seen a lot of debate about the supposed "best" rules for chouettes. There is no such animal! Among the benefits a player might draw from a chouette are monetary winnings, social interaction, and education. No set of rules favors all three, and no set of rules favors any one of them in every milieu. If one of your goals is to learn (and perhaps socialize in the process) and there is a no consulting rule, note the positions of greatest interest, and after the game, if a player whose opinion you respect is not sitting down, pick his brain. You will usually learn more than you would listening to a debate; the amount of noise relative to the amount of wisdom makes it better to tune most out.
