Our understanding differs. To me "take it" is clearly imperative. There may be exceptions that are not occurring to me at the moment, but for now I'm thinking that in any spoken phrase of the form "[verb] it" with a nongerund ("-ing") and present tense verb, an implied "I" would nearly always be very unnatural. If the verb were instead past tense, then an implied "I" would be quite normal in casual conversation. In a backgammon dialogue, if I meant "I take" I would say "take" or "I take" or "I'll take" or (plausibly) "I'll take it" or (stiltedly) "I take it." I would not say "take it" but if I did, I would mean "[you] take [the game/point]," i.e., "I give up."
