Stick is correct that

U = 24/20*/18
V = 24/20*/22

Beyond that is the (strange) non-hitting play:

u = 24/22/18

The underlying "definition" of U (or V) is simply to move up, not to move up as far as possible. The U/V family includes three plays, and to them you apply the hit/most/6 rule applies just as you would to any other letter definition. Hitting takes priority over non-hitting, most points is next (non-applicable), and THEN you apply the 6pt convention (the 18pt is closer to the 6pt than the 20pt is).
