In Response To: Ruling (Phil Simborg)

Phil: >> "Whenever there is a question as to how a ruling should be made, the ruling should tend to go against the player who initiated or caused the question, problem, or ambiguity."

Correct, and that is why you see such (similar) wordings in the DBgF rules and probably in the other rules around the world which are based on DBgF rules. It goes for almost all the mechanics, eg. if one player keeps a scoresheet but the other doesn't, that other player will be at a disadvantage if the TD is called to rule in a question about the score, etc.

Phil: >> In this case, the statement "take it" is ambiguous, and the actions of that party caused the problem, and the ruling should be that he/she did take the cube.

But how about all the "errs" made by the other player, also contributing to the problem: not doubling correct (not turning the cube, nor move it onto the table or towards the opponent), rolling prematurely (which is unquestionable since the match is clocked), and so on...

Your initial idea about putting any player who doesn't follow the advised mechanics of the game at a disadvantage in rulings (good idea) just doesn't solve a problem that both players contribute to.

Unless there's something left out from the description of this episode, I have a hard time seeing how I could rule against the player dropping. Neither can I understand how "Take it!" could be interpreted as "I take it!". I guess it would be said in a certain irritated tone as well or at least with a pitch that would underline the meaning?
