30 second penalty for fast grabbing

Why not penalize premature grabbing the same way? Then you have a real penalty, even for someone with plenty of time. It's not draconian, at least not any more than the penalty for premature rolling. And it avoids the need to play games with the clock.

Plus, it adds a little excitement because there is no guarantee to the offended player that the re-roll won't be better.

(1) It's a penalty that affects the backgammon. Right there, it's no good.

(2) I'm not looking for excitement.

(3) It might be terribly draconian, and it might be no penalty at all.
