I think a baffle box is a far better solution to keeping dice on the table. Although, there is one person I play in the chouette where I have developed another method. If it is an important roll, I know they are going to roll far too hard and will probably roll off the table, so I put my hands up on the edge of the board to block it, or sometimes I take a book and hold it up against the edge of the board. I really think that forcing people to play under water is going too far and can lead to other problems. I am sure it can be done, but we will need to revise the rules to cover what happens if either player runs out of air and dies; or if a fish eats one of the die. I think the controversy over how these rules should be written could lead to the demise of tournament backgammon.
